My Story
I’m fundraising for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust because this charity made a huge difference to me during one of the darkest times of my life.
In 2015, six days before Christmas, I was about 10 weeks pregnant and so excited. Then, out of nowhere while at work, I experienced dizziness and intense abdominal pain. I went to A&E and the next day was taken for emergency surgery, my fallopian tube had ruptured and I was internally bleeding, without that surgery, I would have died.
When I woke up and asked the nurse, “Is it ectopic?” and she confirmed it was, I felt my world fall apart. The grief was indescribable. As a nurse, I knew about ectopic pregnancies, but I didn’t know anyone who had experienced one personally. I felt completely alone, until I found The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and spoke to someone who truly understood. That one conversation made a dark time a little bit lighter, and I knew I wanted to give back.
Since then, I’ve volunteered with the charity, joined the support team and now support the social media and communications team, helping others who have been through similar experiences. The work the charity does means so much to me and always will.
It’s been 10 years since my ectopic pregnancy, and this year I want to mark it by challenging myself by taking on the Milan marathon on 12th April 2026 for the first time. While I’ve healed emotionally, I will never forget the intense pain and grief of losing a much-wanted baby. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust receives no government funding, yet supports so many people through this devastating experience.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust is a small charity that receives no government funding. It relies on the generosity of donaters and fundraisers to provide this invaluable support to those navigating the diagnosis and aftermath of an ectopic pregnancy. I don't know what I would have done without them 💜
If you can, please consider donating, even just £1 makes a difference. Your support will help the charity continue to provide guidance, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.
With love,
Sophie
