Sarah and Robbie’s Marathon Fundraiser
Sarah Sterling-Brown
My Story
I am fundraising for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart and provides vital support, information and reassurance to those affected by ectopic pregnancy.
Last summer, I experienced an ectopic pregnancy, a condition that affects around 1% of pregnancies and can be life-threatening if left untreated. It was one of the most challenging and heartbreaking experiences of my life. During that time, the support I received from my husband, family, friends, and the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust made an immeasurable difference. I genuinely would not be where I am today without them.
Running has since become a powerful part of my healing and recovery. I only began running in April last year, so being physically and mentally able to take on a marathon less than a year later feels incredibly significant. Following my ectopic pregnancy and treatment, I was unable to exercise for eight weeks and had to rebuild my fitness from scratch when I returned in September. In November, I successfully ran a half marathon to raise awareness, as part of my journey towards the marathon I will be running in March.
Training has been both physically and emotionally demanding, but it has also been deeply rewarding and symbolic of how far I’ve come.
On Monday 9th March, wearing my Ectopic Pregnancy Trust running top, and with the incredible support of my husband Robbie running alongside me, I will run with pride, for my recovery, for resilience after loss, and for everyone affected by ectopic pregnancy.
Sharing this journey has not been easy after such a profound loss, but if raising awareness and funds can help even one person feel less alone, then it is worth it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for any support you’re able to give — every donation, no matter how small, helps the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust continue their life-saving work.
