My Story
My name is Josh Newbould, and I am fundraising for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust (EPT) after my wife Sophie and I experienced the devastating loss of our baby to an ectopic pregnancy.
In October, we found out we were pregnant and were absolutely overjoyed. We had so many hopes and dreams for our future as a family. Just a short time later, our world was turned upside down when Sophie was rushed to the hospital, and we received the news that the pregnancy was ectopic. The diagnosis was shocking; we quickly learned that an ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition for the mother and sadly means the baby cannot survive.
The speed at which everything happened was overwhelming. Sophie was in critical condition and needed immediate medical attention. In that moment, the joy of expecting a child was replaced by fear for her life and the profound heartbreak of losing our baby. As a husband, I felt helpless; my duty is to protect my wife, but this was a situation I had no control over. I watched her go through immense physical pain and the start of a long emotional recovery journey.
During this incredibly difficult time, The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust was a lifeline for both of us. The information on their website helped us understand what was happening when everything felt chaotic and uncertain. The EPT also provides a vital online forum where Sophie and I could connect with others who had gone through similar experiences, helping us to feel less alone in our grief. We quickly learned that partners grieve too, and the EPT's resources acknowledge the pain and isolation that men can feel as well.
The EPT provided support, information, and a safe space to talk when we needed it most. We want to give back to this incredible charity so they can continue to be there for other families facing this trauma. Every donation helps the EPT to:
- Provide a vital helpline and support services to those in their darkest moments.
- Raise awareness among the public and healthcare professionals to ensure earlier diagnosis, which can save lives and prevent further harm.
- Fund research into the causes of ectopic pregnancy.
By sharing our story and fundraising, we hope to honour our baby's memory and ensure that no other couple feels alone during such a traumatic experience. We are raising money and awareness, and we truly believe that both are essential.
Thank you for your support. Your contribution will make a genuine difference to families going through what we have.
